Dream Team VI counter-blow Tunisia

The national men’s U-23 football team, Dream Team VI yesterday trounced their Tunisian counterparts 3-0 to avenge the 3-5 defeat they suffered in the hands of the Tunisians four days ago.
The game, which started on a very high temp saw coach Samson Siasia making four changes from the team that lost the first game, as new comers, Stanley Amuzie, Freedom Omofonma, Tonbara Tiongoli and Peter Onyekachi made their presence felt from the blast of the referee’s whistle.
Striker Onyekachi was a thorn in the flesh of the Tunisians putting them under so much pressure while Tonbara was a handful for the defense line of the opponents, but if these players were a marvel, the defense got more stability with the introduction of Stanley Amuzie who kept the Tunisian attackers at bay and was a force in attack.
In one of such moves, Peter Onyekachi was fouled in the 18 yard box of the Tunisians making the center referee to award a penalty which was converted by Oghenekaro Etebo in the 31st minute.
With the massive support from the few Nigerians led by Nigeria’s Ambassador to Tunisia, Dr. Joseph Omede and members of staff of the embassy at the El Menzah Stadium, the Dream Team VI took control of all departments of the game piling pressure but could not get any goal before the end of the first half.
On resumption of the second half, the Dream Team VI players continued from where they stopped in the first half as they pinned their opponents to their half of the field with mid field Marshall Azubuike Okechukwu combining well with Oghenekaro Etebo to put the Tunisians under so much pressure and in the 56th minute striker Peter Onyekachi made his presence felt as he punished the Tunisians with the second goal of the game.
Coach Siasia took out off form Freedom Omofoman and brought in Savior Godwin, this change galvanised the Nigerian attack resulting in the Tunisians conceding another penalty after one of their defenders had handled the ball from a pull out by Stanley Amuzie but the resultant kick was played over the bar by Etebo in the 70th minute.
This did not dampen the spirit of the Dream Team VI players as they continued to pile pressure and in the 87th minute Godwin Savior put the icing on the cake with the third goal after running down the defense line of the Tunisians to release a shot which the goalkeeper had to answer to.

Chadian Helicopters Drop Food, Weapons for Boko Haram Terrorists

Leadership newspaper recounts the story of Mohammed Sani, a vigilante leader for Monguno town in Borno state, which was recently attacked by the Bok Haram terrorists.

According to Sani, helicopters dropped arms and food items for the insurgents while they camped in a bush.

His account: “Even during the attack on Monguno, there was an aircraft that came but did not do anything, not even dropping a single bomb before it left; then another one later came around the Monguno barracks and we saw four men alighting from the aircraft, using a rope. The aircraft left, but we doubt if they were soldiers.

“Even before then, some of my colleagues and I have been sighting helicopters dropping items in sacks and some in boxes to them at the camp of Boko Haram near Chikungudu and Kwalaram villages. Many helicopters came to drop items packed in boxes and sacks to the Boko Haram insurgents at a bush camp between Monguno and Marte; then we would see the Boko Haram gunmen rushing to the spot to pick the dropped items."

Sani says the people manning the strange helicopters were foreigners:

“Many of them looked like Chadian Arabs – they were light-skinned with coiled hair, and there were many young men from Monguno – who Boko Haram had abducted when Nganzai was attacked last year – that were now active members of the sect.

“While Boko Haram members that are former youths of Monguno were leading other insurgents to attack Monguno town, the foreigners were the ones engaging soldiers near the barracks."

LIL WAYNE SUES HIS FATHER, BIRDMAN FOR $51 MILLION

Lil Wayne is taking Birdman to court. The Young Money rapper has officially filed a lawsuit asking a judge to release him from Cash Money Records.
According to TMZ, Wayne claims Birdman violated the terms of their deal by withholding tens of millions of dollars Cash Money owes him for his oft-delayed album Tha Carter V.
Since Cash Money is refusing to pay, Wayne says he’s entitled to cancel the contract.
Not only does Weezy want his freedom, he’s also suing for a whopping $51 million.
Wayne wants the judge to give him joint copyright ownership of all Young Money recordings including those of Drake, Nicki Minaj, Tyga, and more. He plans to take his artists with him off Cash Money.
However, if Birdman pays, Wayne’s camp will allow Cash Money to release Tha Carter V. Wayne was supposed to get an $8 million advance when he started recording in December 2013 and another $2 million when he completed the album a year later, but so far he’s received nothing.

Boko Haram Opens Twitter page

According to Daily Trust, the Jama'atu AhlisSunna Lidda'awati Waljahad group, infamously known as Boko Haram has launched a new frontier in their multifaceted attack points: social media, with Twitter becoming their latest platform for winning people over to their side.

If the reports are to be believed, Alurwa Alwuthqa is the mouthpiece of the group, and he announced the sect's capture of Monguno and shared photos of child soldiers being trained by the sect.

The account began tweeting on January 18th (first message being something about Baga) and has amassed over 3,000 followers already.

The account also has a video interview with Abu Mus'ab Albarnawi, who says he is the spokesman of the group. The video had the faces of both interviewer and interviewee blurred out.

Nigeria's Defence HQ is yet to comment on this.

Cristiano Ronaldo handed two-game ban

Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo has been handed a two-game suspension following his red card in the 2-1 win over Cordoba at the weekend.

The prolific attacker lost his temper in the closing stages of the game after failing to make an impact, kicking out and raising a hand to strike Cordoba defender Edimar in the face, leaving referee Alejandro Hernandez no other choice but to dismiss him.

Ronaldo was quick to apologise after the incident, while Edimar called for La Liga's disciplinary committee to show leniency, and the Portugal captain has escaped a lengthy ban.

The 29-year-old will miss the Primera Division games against Real Sociedad and Sevilla as a result of his suspension.

Ronaldo has been in sublime form for Madrid in 2014-15, netting 36 goals in 31 appearances in all competitions.

The former Manchester United star's absence means Ancelotti could turn to promising youngster Jese Rodriguez, who recently made his comeback after a lengthy spell on the sidelines due to injury.

How to Reduce Your Risk of Cervical Cancer

Cervical cancer is a cancer arising from the cervix It is due to the abnormal growth of cells that have the ability to invade or spread to other parts of the body Early on there are typically no symptoms. Later symptoms may include: abnormal vaginal bleedingpelvic pain or pain during sexual intercourse.

1.Get a regular Pap smear. The Pap smear can be the greatest defenses for cervical cancer. The Pap smear can detect cervical changes early before they turn into cancer. Check cervical cancer screening guidelines to find out how often you should have a Pap smear, or check with your doctor

2.Limit the amount of sexual partners you have. Studies have shown women who have many sexual partners increase their risk for cervical cancer. They also are increasing their risk of developing HPV, a known cause for cervical cancer.

The HPV vaccine, Gardasil, was approved by the FDA to give to young girls as young as 9. The vaccine is most effective when given to young women before they become sexually active.

Boko Haram''s Bomb Maker Captured In Potiskum

A man suspected of being behind the manufacture of explosives used in a series of Boko Haram suicide attacks has been arrested in northeast Nigeria, a senior police officer told AFP on Tuesday.

The man, identified only as Ba’na, was held in the Arikime area of Potiskum after several weeks of surveillance‎, said the officer, who was involved in the Sunday arrest.

Potiskum, the commercial capital of Yobe State, has been hit by a wave of bombings in recent months, including a suicide attack on a secondary school in November 10 in which 58 people were killed.

On January 18, at least four people died in an attack on a bus station, while the previous weekend two women wearing suicide vests killed six people at a market and two died in a car bombing outside a police station.

The police officer, who asked not to be identified because he is not authorised to speak to the media, said Ba’na was in his mid-thirties and had admitted making the bombs.

“He confessed to being responsible for the manufacture of the explosives used in at least three suicide attacks and the car explosion outside the divisional police station,” he added.

NBa’na allegedly made the explosives used in the November school attack, the January 10 car bombing and January 11 market blasts, the source said.

He was said to have moved to Potiskum from the state capital Damaturu three years ago and worked as a stonemason and water vendor before getting married.

“He was quite good at his disguise and his mason and water vending jobs gave him perfect cover,” the officer said.

U.S. blocks Israeli arms deal with Nigeria

Citing human rights abuses and widespread corruption in nixing helicopter sale, the United States has reportedly vetoed a 2014 arms sale of US-made Cobra helicopters by Israel to Nigeria.
Though the resale of decommissioned gunships was approved by Israel’s Defence Ministry, Washington stopped the deal over concerns that the Nigerian government was not doing enough to avoid civilian casualties in its ongoing fight with Boko Haram, Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported yesterday.
The canceled sale has further strained Washington’s already tense ties with Nigeria over the government’s response to the five-year-long insurgency by the Islamist group.
Beyond its concern over human rights abuses, the Obama administration has significantly limited its security assistance to Nigeria in recent months, due to widespread government corruption and a possible Boko Haram infiltration into the Nigerian military, The New York Times reported in December.
Though Asia remains Israel’s biggest arms customer, military exports to African nations virtually doubled in 2013.  A total of $224 million worth of arms and military technology was sold to African countries, compared to $107 million in 2012.
According to defence sources, a second African country could be a potential buyer for the helicopters, though the Defence Ministry declined to comment on the report.
During a visit to Nigeria on Sunday, US Secretary of State John Kerry said Washington was prepared to increase its support for the fight against Boko Haram, provided next month’s elections take place peacefully and democratically

Top Nollywood Actor Muna Obiekwe Is Dead

Talented Nollywood actor, Muna Obiekwe is dead. The actor, whose demise hit the movie industry like a shock wave yesterday, was said to have died of kidney failure in an undisclosed hospital in Lagos.
According to a source close to the actor, Muna has been battling renal related ailment but has kept it secret for a long time before informing the president of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, Ibinabo Fiberesima who has since been in touch with him. The source further stated that that actor’s drinking habit may not be unconnected to his death.
Until his death, the Enugu based actor was one of the controversial actors in the Nigerian movie industry dubbed Nollywood. Muna, who has a knack for acting romantic scenes, once came under attack for grabbing fellow actor, Biola Ige’s breast, in the movie, Pregnant Hawker. However, the actress later denied the story, claiming that the picture which went viral was doctored and that there was no such scene in the movie.
Muna on his own part was quoted to have said, “…I don’t remember the movie. I also don’t remember sucking Biola’s breasts. If the movie exists, that scene never took place.
“Like I told you, I don’t recall the movie. I do a lot of movies and I can’t remember what happens in all of them. The fact that I don’t recall means that the movie was shot a long time ago. Probably three or more years back. When love scene was in vogue with producers. I’m still searching for the movie to acquaint myself with the story.
“There has never been anything between myself and any actress that I’ve made a movie with. My romantic relationships have always been outside the movie industry. I don’t take my work home”

BUHARI EXPOSED His education, life and career

APC presidential candidate’s life, education, career, and vintage pictures
BY LAWRENCE ENYIOGHASU
Well, not exactly the untold story of former military head of state and presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC). It is more like Muhammadu Buhari’s ‘unknown’ story, as not many Nigerians are familiar with the book written by Rosaline Odeh, the then Head of Research and Documentation Section, Federal Department of Information, in May 1984.
The book, Muhammadu Buhari: Nigeria’s Seventh Head of State, was published by the Federal Department of Information, Domestic Publicity Division, Ikoyi Road, Lagos. It is in seven chapters of 95 pages, and details the early life, educational qualifications, career, and thoughts of the then head of state.
Chapter 1 is on parentage and background of the Daura, Katsina State-born retired military officer and politician. He was the 13th and last child of his mother, and also the last of his father’s 23 children.
Gen. Buhari’s father was Hardo Adamu, a Fulani chief of Dumukorl, a village near Daura. He, however, died when the young Muhammadu was just four years old. All he can remember of him is that “he was tall and fair in complexion.” The young boy ended being brought up by his mother, Hajia Zulaihalu Musa, who had great influence on him.
Chapter 2 is on Buhari’s childhood and early education. This is the portion that, perhaps, unravels the current raging debate on his academic credentials.
At the age of six, the book says, General Buhari was enrolled at the Central Primary School, Daura. His nephew, Mamman, who is two and a half years older, says of the young pupil: “He was above average academically and more than usual naughty.” Buhari himself corroborated: “I was a truant in primary school. I spent a lot of my time playing around. But when I went to secondary school, I changed.”
Classmates at Daura Primary School remember Buhari as a fast runner and centre forward for the school football team. He was always neatly dressed. He was to finish primary education in 1955 at Kankia Primary School.
In 1956, he proceeded to the Katsina Provisional Secondary School (now Government College, Katsina. According to his schoolmates, he had then become “a serious and hardworking student who tried to excel in everything he did.” Deeply religious, he said his prayers regularly, and was among those who made prayer calls at 4:30a.m.
Who were some of Buhari’s classmates, and what did they say of him?
General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua (now deceased): “He worked fairly hard at his studies and games. He was reserved. He was one of the few boys in the school trusted by his classmates, and was quite dependable.”
Alhaji Fathu Abdullahi: He made a lot of friends from outside his Daura group. He was very broadminded. Very serious for his age and had no time for frivolous talks. He was very religious, even at the age of 12.”
Mallam Muktari, Zango: “He used to baffle me. He was so strong-willed and principled. He always stood his ground and did not follow the crowd.”
Buhari was a school monitor in Class 2, later a school prefect, a house captain, and ultimately he was made the head boy of the school.
According to the book, of all the boys who applied to join the Army from Katsina Secondary School, only two were taken. Muhammadu Buhari and Shehu Yar’Adua. They both ended up as Generals.
Chapter 3 is on Buhari’s military career, which he started at Nigerian Military Training College, Katsina, in 1962. He then went to the Young Officers Course No. 5 at the Nigerian Military Training College, Kaduna, from May 1963 to July 1963, Mons Officers Cadet School, Aldershot, in the United Kingdom, and he was commissioned in the rank of Second Lieutenant and posted to 2nd Infantry Battalion in Abeokuta as a Platoon Commander.
What are some of the other courses Buhari attended? According to the book, he was at the Army Mechanical Transport Officer’s Course in Bordon, United Kingdom from May 1965 to June of the same year, Defence Services Staff College, Wellington, India, from January to November 1973, and Army War College, U.S.A, from July 1979 to July 1980.
During the Nigerian Civil War, he was the Brigade Major of the 3rd Infantry Brigade, and Commander, 31st Infantry Brigade.
Chapter 4 is titled ‘Food for Thought,’ and it chronicles Gen Buhari’s views on different national and international issues. It also dwells on his private life and family
‘Landmarks Along the Way’ is the title of Chapter 5. It details Buhari’s footprints on the sands of time: as governor, minister, a member of the Supreme Military Council (SMC), General Officer Commanding (GOC), and call to duty as head of state.
Chapter 6 is on ‘A Journey Into the Past.’ What are readers served here? The influences on Buhari’s early life that made him what he became, particularly as a modest, self-effacing man. Hear his comment on leadership: “If there is anything we need in this country, it is leadership, and I also think, if there is anything we have in this country, they are good soldiers. If you stay with your men, and train with them, they will follow you. Much will be accomplished. If you stay with them and train with them, they will do anything.”
And his philosophy? “You will never succeed if you are unjust to your people.”
The final chapter: ‘Moment of Decision.’ Here, readers will get the appraisal and comments of people on Buhari. They include Dr Onolapo Soleye, his Minister of Finance, the Emir of Daura, Gen Musa Yar’Adua, Alhaji Mamman Daura, Gen Martin Adamu, and many others. Adamu, who was Buhari’s Commander during the civil war, said: “I am saying with all sense of responsibility. I don’t think he is an ambitious man. He feels strongly about Nigeria as a country. Given the support of the Armed Forces and the public, there is no reason he should not succeed. This time is the last chance for Nigeria’s survival and territorial integrity. I believe everything he said in his first speech.”

Buhari Allegedly Slumps at APC Calabar Rally

Muhammadu Buhari, Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC slumped at his campaign rally in Calabar, the Cross River state capital; African Herald Express Reports.

Buhari reportedly slumped when he was climbing to the podium to give his speech. Four aides rushed to his side and stabilized him quickly.

An eyewitness who was present at the event told African Herald Express, ''From the way he sat when his convoy arrived, it was obvious that the man does not appear very strong. It could be stress arising from old age as well as fatigue from campaign trips to Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Imo and now Cross River State''.
